The Sam Mizrahi Memorial Fund was established through memorial gifts in honor of Samuel Joseph Mizrahi, who passed this life at age 16 on June 25, 2006, from injuries sustained in an auto accident. He attended Northern High School (Dillsburg, Pa.) as part of the class of 2008. Sam enjoyed life and brought excitement to every situation he encountered. He played soccer, golf, earned a black belt in martial arts, and loved to ski. Sam worked as a cashier at Giant. Sam was an avid reader. Stephen King was his favorite author. From his early childhood Sam had a great interest in sports cars and superheroes. Besides cars, some of his greatest joys came from music, playing his guitar, and video gaming. Sam attended diabetes camp since the age of 7 and had made the transition from camper to counselor. Sam was about 6 feet tall with a huge head of long curly hair....and a personality to match. Sam planned to attend college in California and become a successful lawyer to fund all of his expensive hobbies. The Sam Mizrahi Memorial Scholarship is an endowment fund of the Sam Mizrahi Memorial Fund (a component of the Foundation for Enhancing Communities) which is used to assist students with college tuition expenses.

The Run
Several months after Sam's passing, several of his friends organized a 5k run in his memory. Being very touched by this effort, Sam's family decided to make the run an annual event.  In a touch of irony it should be noted that Sam hated to run.

Butterflies
Sam's Mom and Sister have become enamored with butterflies. Very soon after Sam's accident they noticed butterflies fluttering around everywhere. They have come to remind us of Sam and a life well lived. In 2009 the name of the run was changed to incorporate the butterfly theme.
